Well the problem is those fucking mountains in the middle. The Ogma Mountains means Edelgard marching her army through the mountains like Hannibal, where the Kingdom Army will be waiting at the bottom to eat them alive. The only valid way for her to actually attack the Kingdom is to

A. Frame Dimitri for murder, causing the Kingdom to fracture

Or

B. Declare war against Leicester, so she can take their bridge, and then go around the mountains.
