They could have called it "Mobil Suit Gundam Witch" without putting the Mercury in the mix. I get wanting to differentiate itself from "Gundam Wing", but people still call it G-Witch anyways and the whole Mercury thing is just a relic of the first plot draft that they immediately abandoned for the school setting. There's not even a flashback because Mercury has no importance at all.
I think it would have been nice to start the first episode by introducing Suletta on Mercury, but Gotta go fast and they need to have the wedding in episode 1.
