Katakana is for reading foreign text/ they had access to bibles in China and Japan when it appeared in 10th century, it's strokes fron kanjis but if they used the Hebrew Bible as a reference then the alphabets would resemble each other. they will never admit this in China because they purge all semitic and christian influence for their country every century or so, Manicheans would hide their semitic beliefs behind Buddhism.
