In October 2024, Viktoriia's father received a letter from the Russian ministry of defense claiming that she had died in Russian captivity on September 19. In February 2025, Viktoriia's body was returned to Ukraine missing several internal organs - her eyeballs, brain, part of her larynx, and with the hyoid bone broken. A representative of the Office of the Prosecutor General of Ukraine reported signs of brutal torture - hemorrhages (bleeding) all over her body, a broken rib, and traces of electric shocks applied to her feet.

For this crime, the detention center chief faces up to 12 years in prison.

According to the National Police, the suspect has already left his position as head of the facility.

It is also reported that the investigation is ongoing and that efforts are underway to identify all those involved in crimes against Viktoriia Roshchyna.
