Cherry blossom season lasts a week or two at most.
They come and go extremely fast, turning into regular green trees almost overnight, that's the whole point of why it's such an event.

Japan that's permanently cherried is a trope made by people who have never been there.
Also, the cherry planting obsession is of course a modern thing. It's even more absurd for Kamakura period.

And the red plums last much longer and look better, IMO. Heck, most people using bright pink for cherry blossoms probably confuse the two. There are both white and pink cherry blossoms, but Japan overwhelmingly plants the white variety. They only have a faint bit of pink at the base of petals.
