>tl;dr an 11 km wide alien mothership is headed towards Earth and will arrive here in two months

Tomorrow we find out if 3l/ATLAS is a comet or aliens. Currently it is described by NASA as "atypical" and is challenging many conventional models of comet behavior.

3I/ATLAS exhibits:

>-A sunward-pointing coma, which defies the laws of radiation pressure at this distance. The light being emitted from this object is actually IN FRONT of it. Not behind it!

>-Zero detectable volatiles - unlike comet 2I/Borisov, which outgassed heavily at the same range.

>-Very peculiar trajectory. It's path is exactly what you would take from interstellar space if you wanted to sneak up on Earth.

>It's flying almost perfectly aligned with our solar system's ecliptic plane

If by August 5 it fails to reorient its coma away from the Sun, emit volatile gases, or expand its coma significantly, the “natural comet” hypothesis will be much harder to cosign on. These observations will determine whether it holds up as a "natural" object, or if we’re facing a far more consequential anomaly

The bottom line:

>If 3I/ATLAS alters speed and heading after its encounter with Mars in a way that coincides with Earth’s orbital path—especially if it mimics intelligent braking or steering—we may be forced to confront the idea that this isn’t a relic of cosmic dust and ice. It could be something else entirely.
