Kurea is the responsible one, the friend that is a natural in taking care of others and being the voice of reason. People like that are often ignored when they have worries, not out of malice but because people around them are used to see them as the stable reliable ones. That Mako noticed Kurea's melancholy and went above and beyond to try and offer her support likely meant the world for the later even if she tried to downplay it out of embarrassment. It's no wonder they became closer after that.

I know the usual is to ship anything but I agree with you here. I love the way the friendship between Mako and Kurea has been growing. The relaxed way they just naturally came to support each other is refreshing. They're not passionate, they just find out they enjoy having new experiences together.
