Also, a bit of a personal anecdote here. During my graduate program, I did a preliminary research paper on the relationship of organized crime and state formation, and told a fellow graduate student and our professor for another course about the details of the paper, specifically that I was looking at how cooperative or antagonistic relationships between the Batista regime, Castro Regime, and US government with organized crime/mafia in Cuba, during the revolution, and after their expulsion to the USA impact state capacity operations. Now, our professor was a former alphabet agency intelligence analyst, with a few decades of experience, and numerous major scholarly publications on extremely niche and arcane areas of international covert and intelligence operations.

When I told our professor of this research project, in an unprovoked and unsolicited manner they went for the jugular by more or less saying that the mafia Cuba-USA web of relations directly leads up to and intertwines with the assassination of Kennedy. By this time I had already come to the realization how the organized crime theory is the best explanation for the assassination other than Oswald, and was almost shocked that our professor brought this theory up without even so much hinting at in discussion the manner. I pointed this out to my classmate and they were laughing at it.

I followed up with the professor later, and they elaborated on their negative theory that whatever Mafioso or Operation Mongoose cell might have been turned by Castro and sent after Kennedy after everything that had happened. His logic is that both sides had strong mutual reasons to hate Kennedy, as for Castro this being for trying to overthrow and kill Castro multiple times, and for the mob having seen Kennedy as soft on communism by not supporting the Bay of Pigs invasion more or not invading during the missile crisis, much less having shut down the Op Mongoose assassination cells and going after the mob (after the mob helped get Kennedy elected in Chicago).

My positive theory is the exact flipside of my professors, specifically that Kennedy built up the worse enemies throughout his administrative term by firing the Dulles and Helms, having not invaded during the Missile Crisis, and spinning on the Cold War afterwards wanting to pursue detente with Cuba and the USSR, as shown within his American University speech, which was followed up by the Partial Nuclear Test Ban Treaty. Kennedy also eyed Vietnam withdrawal after the next election, but that spung out of control in the fall of 1963 for a few different reasons some of which does fall on Kennedys lap, and he was dead before any more progress could be made in completely pivoting US foreign policy. Between trained Mafia death squads and alphabet agency and DOD insiders who hated Kennedy, he had the enemies with the means and motives to pull off an assassination.
