Literally all European cinema since the early 1970s has been postmodern self-hating edgelord shit as everyone tries to chase the dragon of being the next Godard or Pasolini. Don't get me wrong, there's a ton of fantastic kino produced by these types (especially given they are often far more technically skilled than American filmmakers and better writers too), but one thing it all has in common is the deep-seated self hatred and weird worship of non-European cultures (especially sub-Saharan Africa).
I actually watched a movie made by one of those types recently (picrel) that I really, really loved.

I've only made it through half of picrel (I had some sudden shit to do last morning and have early mass this morning) but I've loved every second of it so far.
