As an oldfag from /m/, no one actually considered GL to be much further beyond galaxy level until people starting picking apart interviews and applying direct scaling to the multiverse labyrinth. For a long time people seriously put Getter Emporor around the same level as STTGL and often put Mazinger Zero above it. There were even Super Robot Wars titles that had villains that were narratively put above STTGL.
