Do Americans not learn what sounds letters make, followed by reading simple texts?
I started learning English in 5th grade, and the first thing we were taught was IPA phonetics.
Also had a dedicated music teacher (approx in grades 3-7) with weekly lessons. He played bayan and piano, we learned notes and sang, listened to classical music.
