basically the entire internet is infested with botnets designed to steal data which can be used to either steal money, fuck up hardware or add to the swarm. Microsoft ideally combats this for it's users by releasing security updates to malware protection however, over time the botnet swarm has been modified to adapt to these changes like a constantly evolving bacteria becoming resistant to anti-biotics. However, because Microsoft doesn't release any more security updates for Windows 7 as it is very old, the swarm has long since been resistant to all of it's tricks and it is open season for anyone connecting to the internet on windows 7.
