One of the best on-going storylines recently was around a couple of wrestlers, one named Tam Nakano and the other named Saya Kamitani. The story is better summarized here but I'll give you the gist:

Tam Nakano is a failed idol. She came to pro-wrestling around 30, which is old for joshi puroresu. She was kind of someone people liked but wrote off given her age and lack of experience.
I can't get into the details but she ended up making a big name for herself, getting herself into feuds that became big deals. And while she was rising, another failed idol debuted, seeing pro-wrestling as her last chance: Saya Kamitani.
Saya had times when she wanted to give up. And Tam was one of ones who mentored her when it was darkest, pushing her to go on. And Saya began winning championships of her own, even taking Tam's championship.
Saya belonged to a group called Queen's Quest. Queen's Quest was the Top Unit at a time, but it was plagued with difficulties. The founder left to WWE. Then the gal who led them ended up betraying them to join the villain unit Oedo Tai. Then the third leader, her best friend friend, left for another company. And then she was the leader, and under her watch they lost a match where they had to disband.
So Saya did the reasonable thing: She joined the villains and declared war on the unfair business that kept slapping her down. Then she challenged her former mentor Tam to a match for the top belt, which she won. Then they feuded for a while, culminating first in a loser-leaves-the-company match:
