That requires money, which requires a job. Ideally, one should work, contribute to society, and be rewarded with the means to buy entertainment. However, what is the point of working if you can just speculate or invest your money? Why not just pirate money?

You're not actually against buying secondhand copies are you? I have to be a real fan and buy it new on launch day? I'd rather just wait until the hype dies down, people get tired of it and it's cheaper.

Supply and demand. In this case, the Supply/software is basically infinite since you can copy it. The developer can limit this by selling copies and utilizing piracy protection. You put people in jail who go against the law and pirate anyways.
The problem is, there aren't any real repercussions to downloading illegal media, only uploading.
In the end, it's like returning the shopping cart in the parking lot of the supermarket. There is no benefit to returning it when you are done, but it does seem like a dick move not to return it. You want to work hard and earn money to pay for games? Great. You probably will sleep better at night.
Anytime someone takes the moral high ground on any issue: "Recycling is important and those that do not are scum!" makes me think you are not operating logically, but emotionally. I'm not considering your argument because you still haven't explained why piracy is bad, you've only only given the ultimatum of "My standpoint" or STFU. If you can't even concede the silver lining in the oppositions point, no one intelligent is going to take your opinion seriously.
