Gun trigger augments range by itself and that augmentation is significant so unless the gun was modified to have more power at the cost of range gunners will always have more range than shooters. And yes they do have enough range to do it. One gunner would be able to effectively defend a major area as long as he chooses a good position.

Yeah this is also something I was mulling over, what if hounds just cannot be effectively intercepted? but than again its Chika her bullets are bigger than heads. if meteors can be shot, nothing should be stopping them from shooting down hounds.
