Whatever firearm you're most familiar and accurate with. Can you land fast accurate shots on an ~8x8 target moving at you rapidly with a 9mm? If so, get some +p hardcast loads and carry with confidence- I honestly think the reason so many people start fudding out about needing a 500SW giga cannon is because most people fucking suck at shooting (especially under duress) and would rather get one mediocre hit with a huge damaging caliber than training enough to be able to land multiple accurate hits with a smaller, lighter weapon. Bear skulls aren't bulletproof for fucks sake. Also, bring bear spray. 9/10 times a bear doesn't want to fuck with you and spray alone will end any encounter. No need to kill the thing if it's just alarmed or acting defensive.
