I actually read it in the German original.
Read the critical edition but 99% of the editor's commentary is trash and I ignored it.
MK itself is a good book. And very German in character.
You'd need some familiarity with German culture to truly grasp it.
It also characterises Hitler.
>original title was meant to be "4 1/2 Years of Struggle against Lies, Stupidity and Cowardice"
Volume I is autobiographical and worldviewy (1925).
Volume II is about the party and programme (1926).
>Volume I
For around the first 30 pages Hitler does not even mention the Jews but just describes his life, things historical relevant to German nationalists and the problem with workers and social democrats.
Then he talks about the JQ and it's mainly in broad strokes, not focusing on content.
More talk includes
>the war from the German perspective
>how to properly wage a war
>the lack of war-time propaganda
>how to produce good propaganda
>the criminality of the November Revolution
>the social question, the German question
>why partisan democracy is a fraud
>why pacifism and internationalism are frauds
>the purpose of the state
>race, health and eugenics
>how to educate the German youth
etc.
>Volume II
Is a bit 'drier', but gets engaging near the end.
>internal policy
>SA serves not as a secretive organisation
>history of the SA
>confessional question
>federalisation question
>deal with those pragmatically
>foreign policy
>the mistakes made during the Empire
>the cowardice of the Republic
>new ideas for international relations
>priority is seizing power and real change
etc.
But take what he says with a grain of salt and compare it to his speeches, army discussions, talks with foreign dignitaries and Führer directives.
As Hitler said, if he knew he would become chancellor in 1933 he would not have written the book.
>final notes
My review is too short. I would also like to read Hitler's Second Book, since it continues where Volume II left off. Parts of it read as if written today.
