Probably. I'm a whitoid and I stand out pretty hard when I'm in less touristy areas and I am not a fan of standing out. They'll probably pick up on the fact that you're a tourist in other ways but I imagine it makes things a little more comfortable.

When I enter a restaurant alone as a white man, they're probably thinking "gross gaijin LBH, LBH piggu go home." But at least when you enter a restaurant, they're probably thinking "stupid chuugokukei gaijin criminal go home" which is preferrable IMO
