>Aren't galleons made out of pure gold? That shit should be worth £500k

I'm figuring Wizard Gold is wildly impure or like Chinese Fake Gold. Definitely not 24K gold. It has to at least be Electroplated Tungsten.

Based on current market prices, the market value of 0.76 grams of pure gold can be calculated by multiplying the weight by the price per gram. The price of pure gold (24K) is approximately $108.56 - $109.07 USD per gram.
Therefore, the market value is approximately:
0.76 grams * $108.56/gram = $82.50 USD
or
0.76 grams * $109.07/gram = $82.89 USD.

Value and alchemy:
Harry Potter author J.K. Rowling has indicated that a Galleon is worth roughly £5, or about $6.64 USD. If a Galleon were pure gold, it would be worth significantly more than that. This suggests that wizarding gold is likely alloyed with other metals, or perhaps even alchemically treated to have a different value in the wizarding world.

($6.64 worth of gold is 0.088 grams of gold. In more familiar terms, that's about 88 milligrams. Or about the weight of a standard paperclip made of aluminum.)

$3,557.29

Which is about $3557.29/$82.50 = 43.118(6) times gold market trading rates.
