Tsugumi also said that he always planned for Light to lose. He wrote him as a villain protagonist for a reason. He was disappointed after seeing how many of Japan's youth started doing terrorist attacks throughout the country to rebel against the system that "let them down". He decided to write a subversive Shounen MC that serves as a lesson to teens on how NOT to act.
