Comics readers by and large don't actually read their comics. They believe that the simple of act of opening and turning the pages will damage them, so they don't even know what's inside the comic. Instead they seal them away under same insane belief that they'll be worth millions one day. The companies cater to this also, offering sometimes 10+ collectible variant versions of the same comic issue, and the collectors buy it all up.
