They definitely know
They know if their laptop or playstation has maybe 1-2, their phone has under a TB. To have tens of terabytes is kinda unfathomable.
There is probably a class of normies who have absolutely no clue either way but anyone in the first world knows how many of their shitty compressed family photos can fit in a TB.
One of my coworkers proclaimed himself a "data hoarder" because he had an 8tb hdd.
The normie perspective isn't very good towards those with so much storage without a use case that makes sense. Even my NAS which mostly contains pirated media doesn't make much sense to the streaming population. My uncles used to be hardcore torrent users so they know the rub but even those who casually pirate now are streaming it.
