Did Metal Knight even do anything to try to do anything to stop him from getting inside? It sounds like he could just walk in, no problem.
It's important to remember that Bofoi isn't being entirely honest when he talks about pragmatism and focusing on results over everything, since he clearly cares about Isamu to the point where he even lets him have the first move and plays around with his battle suit, instead of just knocking him out immediately. He's not above a bit of chuunibyou of his own, either, and he even lectures Isamu on how to properly summon your giant robot.
He commends the boy for coming up with the floating hand strategy, but he's really not taking the fight seriously. Once Isamu brings in his ultimate weapon, Bofoi likewise brings in his real weapon (also as a sign of respect), and it turns out the lad, the way he is now, isn't even remotely in the elder scientist's league. It's an important learning moment for him, with Bofoi going out of his way to point out all of Isamu's mistakes, and if the fight was more equal, it wouldn't work as well.
