Since you asked, originally I had a Perst 3 on my 11.5" main carbine, which was and still is a decent LAM. Good brightness adjustments, durability, laser and illuminator power, zeroing etc. I didn't like the weight though. Whole setup with pressure pad was I think like 14oz maybe more? Anyway I wanted to shave weight off the front, always tinkering, so I ordered one of those chink airshit NGALs pre tariff when they were a fair bit cheaper. Way lighter, I think maybe 5oz instead of 14-15oz. I gotta check pics. I tried to do a zero retention test on the chink NGAL and it seems that it didn't hold zero, but by this time the proliferation of NVG stateside had lead me to believe that passive NVG shooting was a bigger priority than LAM shooting, so I wasn't worried about the lack of zero retention, and the illuminator seems to work fine. So I sold the Perst 3 and kept the NGAL (actually returned one as it had a stiff focus wheel and IR illuminator focus hysteresis) and ordered another that has been okay so far. The main gains were weight savings, and selling the more expensive Perst 3 and buying a cheaper airshit chink NGAL and moving the dosh to other things.
Anyway so the chink NGAL rode the 11.5" carbine build (VSeven rail, ADM lower etc etc, modern build) for a while. I had a CQBR Block 1 clone for a while that used a PSA CHF CL FN 10.5" barrel, but that gun wasn't great (stuck cases) and it didn't have a LAM. Having identified the chink airshit NGAL as a workable LAM, I thought okay what clone gun could I build as a backup to my main 11.5" that would use an NGAL? CQBR Block 2-2.5 use NGAL, so I sold the PSA CQBR Block 1 upper with KAC RAS rail and starting piecing together the parts for a CQBR Block 2-2.5 gun
Now originally I was going to use a Criterion 10.5" chrome lined taper profile barrel because I like modern barrel profiles and good handling carbines, but...
