Oh noes, they have to live in a hallway! What skillful writing! See, you have to give your characters setbacks, so that the audience will empathize with them. Otherwise, you just end up with a bunch of boring Mary Sues, and then the fans start basing some sort of religion around them and refuse to accept that everyone doesn't believe exactly like they do.
