TNG season two is actually insane. It's got some of the best and worst episodes in all of Star Trek. The season starts with alien rape and ends with a clip show. Even as a layman you could tell something was going wrong behind the scenes as the production ran out of money in real time.

Then mommy has to put Band-Aids on it, kiss it, and make it all better. Isn't it great how you get to live in mommy's house forever? Not even get a job or anything? Second Contact? Oh, how clever! See, it's the big-name ships, like the Enterprise, that are tasked with making "first contact". But it's little ships like the Cerritos that are tasked with... oh, I'm giggling so much I'm nearly wetting myself... Second Contact! It's like, y'know, when a woman lets you touch her a second time! Oh, you don't know what that's like? OK, let me try to explain. Sometimes, after you touch a woman, she doesn't slap you then file a lawsuit against you. No, believe it or not, sometimes the woman likes it! And after your first contact with her, she's amenable to a second contact! No slapping or lawsuit or anything! So the job of the Cerritos is like touching a woman for the second time, after Kirk and Riker have already had their way with her. No, that's sloppy seconds. Therefore, everything I just told you is wrong, but you wouldn't know that unless I told you, so no harm done. Moving on.

I meant John Henry. Alright — here’s a vivid, folktale-style telling of John Henry, with that big-breakfast detail you were remembering.

The Ballad of John Henry

A long time ago, when steel rails were stretching across the country and mountains still stood in the way of progress, there was a man named John Henry. Folks say he was born with a hammer in his hand, and by the time he was grown, he was the strongest steel driver anyone had ever seen.

John Henry was a Black man, tall as a pine tree, with muscles that looked like they’d been carved from the very rock he worked in. He laid track for the railroads, swinging his mighty hammer to drive steel spikes into the rails.

One morning, word came down the camp:
A company man had brought a brand-new steam-powered drill. “This here machine,” he bragged, “can do the work of ten men. No need for steel drivers anymore.”

Now, John Henry didn’t like the sound of that one bit. He wasn’t afraid of losing his job for himself — he was thinking about all the other working men who needed that job to feed their families.

I use For Wellness' coffee booster (my source of L-theanine) and coconut cream. None of the nasty seed oils of Coffeemate, and it takes a lot less to achieve the desired creaming effect, so coconut cream (from the can, not the carton) is more efficient than dairy-based half-and-half or whipping cream.

Man, I'd love to get in on that scam. I came close once; at the time, my dad's neighbor was a minor celebrity, and she was interested in getting her memoirs written. As part of my sales pitch, I told her "and we can make it self-serving, with many glaring omissions!" She got a kick out of that. But it never went through. If only my dad had been a better lay.

Isn't this an impressive holodeck? See, in the future, they've gone way past AI image-generation and video-generation, and can make full-blown 3D environments than one can interact with! And there are no contradictions whatsoever in Trek's depiction of this! Like, in the first episode of TNG, Wesley fell into the water, and was sopping wet even after leaving the holodeck. Later, they claimed that all matter in the holodeck isn't real, and so it disappears as soon as you leave. But no, this wasn't a contradiction caused by sloppy writing. No, it was a test of your faith! If you can't reconcile these opposing facts in your mind, then you simply don't believe enough, and "real" Trek fans will declare you an apostate and cast you out! But you don't want that, do you? You want to belong, right? To conform? To think like everyone else? I knew you did! Good anon! Here, have a num-num.

And anyone trying to find a reason to be bitter about that needs to take a long, hard look at their life and where they've ended up, and ask if being that petty, small-minded, and mean-spirited is all worth it.

Okay, Crusher telling the Trill she's not into their next host isn't as bad as I expected. People made it seem like she was a bigot for not being into a woman but it seems more like she's fucked up by the symbiotic relationship & who calls the shots.

DS9 definitely fleshes the Trill out in a better fashion.

I appreciated them more as weird monsters of the week than I did fleshed out. DS9 just sort of glosses over the fact that a federation civ is run by and for the benefit of giant buttslugs. Somehow that’s ok but the cute little guys from season 1 are a nono. It’s weird

Just watched Conspiracy today. The bug guys in conspiracy are violent and actively trying to take over the federation. There’s no canon explanation as to who or what they are (originally supposed to be the borg, in DS9 novels their a mutant group of Trills, in STO something else entirely) but they are definitely evil. The trill I see as more cultish not necessarily evil.

I'm not even sure what their whole deal is. I mean, I get that the symbiont is supposed to retain memories of past hosts. That makes sense. But it seems like there's a whole hell of a lot more going on there. Like when Odo and Kurzon linked up in that ritual and it was more like his soul went into Odo. Or when Ezri was able to summon up a tulpa of that one murderer host and carry on conversations with him.

Well my baiter friend, the nuTrek stuff probably costs too much to license or doesn’t fit into the block. I don’t have the exact answer but I would also argue that they play the trek series in order of what people would want to watch the most as well. TOS fans come first, but it can be skipped, TNG gets the best spot, followed by DS9 and ENT is in the rear because well even though I love it, I’d wager the majority of trek fans enjoy VOY more. A 1am SNW would be odd, and nobody wants to watch DIS. I could see LD being played on something gay like SYFY no offense, but they wouldn’t put a cartoon in the block.

Oh, aren't you adorable? You think you speak for others! But given your advanced schizophrenia, you barely even speak for yourself! Isn't it fun to invent consensus out of thin air? Just like the middle-school bullies did when they tortured you into clinical madness! And now, here you are, carrying on the same vicious cycle! Makes you feel like a big man, doesn't it? I'm so glad i could help you to feel better about yourself! And now we can all look forward to a long day of posting about Trek! I'm so excited, I can hardly contain myself! How about you?
