Foucault and Butler wanted to end identity politics, but they did so by erasing any objective basis for identiies to exist... which meant that identities are now subjective and thus infinite. Anyone can be anything now. And functionally it meant that identies were real when they wanted them to be, but not real when they didn't want them to be.
