The real problem came in when people who had absolutely no connection to Zoe Quinn, from unaffiliated outlets, were parroting the exact same praises of a product which self evidently did not merit them. Most gaming journalists didn't need to be bribed at all. The entire industry walked in lockstep with just a handful of powerful people, with little to no dissent. All it took to astroturf the media was getting on the good side of the Five Guys. If just a small personal bias was able to turn the whole industry on to artificially propping a product up, imagine how bad it was when real fucking bribes from EA and Activision were involved. It became plainly obvious that the entire industry was a fucked up, insular clique of people enriching themselves, with no semblance of journalistic integrity at all. They didn't even deserve to call themselves journalists. It derailed and became a mess, because the scandalous allegations became the focus, instead of what they proved.
