When I started in my club a coach taught me that tactics are important, he taught me the Italian opening, and told me how to attack and showed certain patterns with pieces, as well as games and endgames and mates in 2 (my favorites)... the first game he ever showed me was the opera game and then the mate in 2 by Morphy... how can one not fall in love with chess by starting with this? I think Esserman is right when he says that Morphy's games teach a lot of shit, not only about attack but about taking advantage and positional understanding
