yeah, I know. I'm using it in a more archaic way. Like for example in a Victorian era, a degenerate would be someone of a higher standing delving into lower class activity. Criminal, vulgar, unbecoming of proper member of society - these things were considered less evolved ... So when I see a libertine movement that was more liberal in the 90s and now feels like it's in the 1930s - I consider it degenerated.
