This is cooking my brain, i can only read Kris & Spamton's interaction as an expy for Asriel leaving Kris now. And that's why Kris hits and kicks the machine seemingly desperate for Spamton to wake up. Because it feels like someone is leaving Kris again.
But Spamton NEO is ultimately still tethered to something, like how Asriel is tethered to Hometown and, based on the guitar strings, to Dess.
This has filled me with HOPE that Asriel has a significant part to play going forward.
