He's a loser and a dumbass. The victim's sister absolutely bodied him by laying it out for everyone. He had a god complex but really he was anti-social and just average intelligence compared to other college psychology students. The fact he went through with this shows he's actually below average intelligence and just lived inside his own head where he imagined everyone else to be worthless. If you have smart friends you probably know a couple who are fairly smart but way overestimate their intelligence. He wasn't even at that level. I feel horrible for his family, they probably all felt sorry for him along the way in life, and they probably all feel terrible about what he did to these other families. It's a heartbreaking tragedy, and this guy is a dork who is going to spend the next 50-60 years staring at a wall.
