late QP was set to Valve servers only by default, but you could still change it to inculde community servers if you wanted
and valve servers back then had scramble, switching teams, 45 minute servers and ad hoc connections
now with casual you queue for a minute (or several minutes if you dont play badwater/upward/harvest) to join a match, you wait 2 more minutes during the preround timer which is there to fill the server, you then wait for the casual cutscene, then you play for 5 minutes and the server ends, the votemap begins, and everyone leaves
it's funny how casual is so shit that the arguments in favor of it are shit like "b-but I like my matches lasting 5 minutes!" as if before you couldn't just fucking disconnect when you felt like not playing anymore
