That one isn't a narrative, just look through the years at the usability of anime decks in the real game.
They sell you Dark Magician / Shining Sarcophagus cardboard at premium price but they absolutely don't intend it to be Meta. And even if it became Meta now, it's 25 years too late.
Do you think they're honestly trying to make it good and are just bad at designing cards? Perhaps. Perhaps they left the design to their B or C team, because they DO have people printing the new Meta decks every 6 months or so, and those know how to make it busted.
Konami can fix whatever they want, they have an omnipotent printer.
Just check Pic related. I was googling opinions on the Metalmorph archetype when it originally released and found one guy saying they should make a REBD retrain that allowed you to play Metalmorph the same turn they're set, because that's what the deck would need to be strong.
Cue people mocking it, with the absolute top comment saying how ridiculous that is and if that Konami intended for that, they'd have made it that way.... A year later, that's exactly the card Konami crested. So they can do whatever absurd solution we can think of to fix a deck.
With that said, they absolutely know how to make fancards real and make DM, Toons, Neo-Spacians, E-Heroes, Ojama, Armed Dragon, Cydra, Utopia, Galaxy Eyes, etc.. meta but they just dislike the anime and always keep those cards a notch below the meta except for BEWD and Yubel (FOR A LIMITED TIME, they were "Meta" but their cards were the quickest to fall off, 4 months later and BEWD is considered on its way out due to powercreep while Mitsurugi, Maliss, Vanquish K9 or Ryzeal are actual monsters that will only be taken out by the banlist)
