In FF7, AVALANCHE blew up Reactor 1 in the opening segment.
Next, SHIN-RA discovers AVALANCHE's plan to blow up Reactor 5, so SHIN-RA (President Shinra, himself, even) tailored that go off without a hitch while trapping AVALANCHE there with the blast.
Finally, after the miracle survival of AVALANCHE, SHIN-RA decides to prepare Reactor 7 to be destroyed as well. They even prepared the explosion themselves, lacing it with superfluous energy to take down the entire Sector 7 Plate, all just as a means to fully destroy AVALANCHE (knowing about their residence in the Sector 7 Slums. No "miracle getaway" this time. This kills everyone on the plate and everyone in the slums. Miraculously, Barret, Tifa, Cloud of AVALANCHE (plus Aeris and Red XIII) survive, as well as Marlene (taken to Aeris' mom).

Also, why the Hell would you be surprised an average-height Japanese women who trains to run extremely, extremely, extremely, extremely long distances for decades of her life can run an extremely long distance BETTER than a huge bodybuilder???
