Why is anime so trashy and juvenile? Maybe because I didn't grow up with it but it's super hard to take seriously and get invested in. It feels like it's all written for people between the ages of 10-21 and have never read a book before that wasn't some trashy pulp. About as much substance as video game schlock, young adult fiction and capeshit. All of the old ones I've tried out that I see get recommended here often and are held in high regard were complete trash which is odd because I assumed the taste was better here than /a/ because some people here are adults and watch classic cinema but alas. You gotta have some arrested development to enjoy this stuff or excuse it all with nostalgia and watching it ironically. This isn't art, it's kitsch low culture fare for the mentally feeble.

Even old anime is pure kitsch, aesthetically speaking, and the writing is terrible and unsubtle. It's made by and for autistic people; that's why every show and film lacks complexity and tells you exactly how to feel. Everything needs to be explained—every internal monologue, every villain's reasoning, flashback after flashback, etc.
