What you are saying is that natural human competition is savage and destructive, which is why social controls about courtship exist.
This implies that the only thing keeping humans from tearing each other to pieces over sex and power are social laws. This is false.
Humans ARE NOT polygynous like gorillas are. There isn't one dominant alpha that gets all the power and bitches while the betas serve the tribe in submission.
Humans are also not as promiscuous as chimps, where a single alpha male chimp is unable to guard the females, and all the mate with all women like an orgy (unlike gorillas).
Humans are neither of polygynous (one man gets all women), but are also not extremely promiscuous (compared to chimps). This is because human women are more vulnerable than either of those species. Human pregnancy is THE HARDEST pregnancy of all mammals.
The women are required to seek a man who is biologically dominant but also able and willing to provision and protect her. This is extremely rare, which is why cheating is common but true biological promiscuity is virtually absent, and so is alpha/beta type polygyny.
The social codes of monogamy aren't contradictory to this biology.
Competition for mates and social power is not undermined by social codes. It still demonstrably exists, just not in the form of violence. It's been replaced by economics, influence, and of course...
Being invited to to high school parties.
The social contract is not antithetical to competition, it is just one of the many elements of society that humans have to work around.
The money we earn in our hustles today is no different than the sticks and rocks our ancestors gathered in their hustles back then.
Social competition, jealousy, and comparison are all here to stay.
All the social contract does is just phase out the violence and murder and replace it with more complex ways of establishing value and dominance... but even then, murder and violence still do happen!
