not far. radio waves are already kind of a cope. in theory you could use your star systems sun as a magnifying glass with probes about 500 AU from it observing alien exoplanets and even then the "best" you get is a barely distinguishable smudge of the object

final nail in the coffin is space time itself. not only distance but time itself. human civilization is roughly 10 000 years old and for humans that is an eternity. in space time terms that is barely 100 milliseconds. even if civilization spreads to the solar system if it fails to spread out of the system it definitely wont be around in another 10 000 years into the future (10 2025 AD)
