I think they might've been insecure about the "KH plot convoluted" memes so they leaned more heavily into the Disney stuff. But also it was their first major console release in years so maybe they just wanted to milk it. There were a couple of trailers that leaned into story like the final battle one, at that point those trailers are really only meant for fans.

Didn't KH1 rely more heavily on Disney marketing? They probably leaned on it heavier because it was the first one no? And Final Fantasy.
