It depends what kind of animation you're talking about. Cartoons and anime aren't great but CG-leaning and 3D stuff is more than useable right now. It's not quite perfect in all cases but occasionally it's getting very close.
There's some AI anime coming out too, it'll probably be bad but it's a sign.
>Back in 2000's many art schools kept saying that "Photoshop is not REAL art" and "Wacom and Cintiq boards are not REAL art tools.". Animators saw those tools and immediatly adapted them because photoing or scanning every single fucking frame is tedious as fuck and those frames have to be compiled and edited in a computer anyway. Drawing directly into the computer screen skips a painful process in animation so animators embraced it.
Even just 10 years ago some people were arguing against digital art being art lol. Also one big difference between the switch to manual>digital took decades but the AI revolution won't take anywhere near as long. I think in around 5 years veterans will be wondering what the fuck happened because there will be full movies appearing out of thin air and they might be good.
