The obsessive focus on Palestine by certain leftist groups reveals less about humanitarian concern and more about ideological self-narration. For them, the conflict serves as a perfect allegory for a world divided into eternal oppressors and oppressed — with capitalism, colonialism, Zionism, and the West always cast as the villains. More complex or morally ambiguous atrocities — like those in Congo, Sudan, Xinjiang, or Yemen — are sidelined, not because they’re less severe, but because they don’t fit the script. The real goal isn’t justice for Palestinians — it’s to claim victimhood by ideological proxy, and demand moral and political power as the self-designated voice of the oppressed. It’s a deeply cynical and manipulative use of real human suffering.
