You're missing the point. Adrestia has massive fuck-huge numbers, but the Kingdom has basically every Relic weapon. The reason the Kingdom has survived so long despite constant raids from Sreng and Duscur and being a poor-as-shit country is because of the strength of the Relics. Ingrid is a noble, but she can remember winters where she and her family would eat dirt and snow to survive winter. The reason she eats so much at the Academy isn't because it's a cute quirk, it's because she's experienced starvation before, and has a deep-seated fear of going without eating.

Miklan stealing the Lance of Ruin isn't just some petty squabble, he was single-handedly about to bring down the entire Kingdom because without the Lance, Sylvain's father couldn't hold back Sreng. Sylvain trying to find new weaponry to hand to peasants and inventing "portable fire orbs" is because he knows once his father dies, he'll be the one responsible fighting back all of Sreng unless he can broker peace (which is nearly impossible, since Sreng is even worse off than Faerghus) or make it so even common infantry can hold them off without major casualties. Sylvain feels disgusted having a Crest because women want him for his seed, because it drove a wedge between him and his brother, and because he's going to have to kill thousands of people throughout his entire life in the name of duty to the Kingdom unless he can find another solution. He's born to be a killer, and that's fucked up.
So, when Edelgard has the sheer fucking audacity to say, "I believe in a world without Crests," the Kingdom hears, "I want you all to fucking die," because without Crests, there aren't any Relics, and without Relics, there isn't a Kingdom.
