Last year, I started running an FFG Rogue Trader campaign for some of my IRL friends who didn't know shit about WH40k beforehand besides seeing annoying fans of it online, with me not engaging much with it after graduating high school. I tailored the campaign to their perspective, and it has honestly been such a breath of fresh air, like showing someone a TV show you love and re-experiencing it for the first time through their eyes. They were given just enough info to make characters that could feasibly exist within the world. Otherwise, everything else about the setting communicated outside of the sessions themselves has been through artwork, small descriptions, and vibes, because I promised myself I would not subject anyone to 40k """"""lore"""""" as the internet presents it. Plus, it allows me to just make shit up and show the version of 40k that exists solely in my head as fact because nobody knows enough to correct me. The campaign has been kino so far and everybody is having a great time and getting really into it.

All of this to say, I wonder how much more miserable I'd be if I were running for a bunch of 40kfags who already know everything and can't be surprised by shit. Or, even worse, who know more """"lore"""" than I do and feel the need to pipe up about it over minor details. And then, I realized that 40k fans are just annoying and that the setting is way cooler and more interesting when I'm the one writing it.
