because we fucking read the LotR books which were better than the movies. star wars itself was a cool movie, that was it. LotR is on a completely different level, it's out of star wars' league. George Lucas never fucking created his own functional languages and mythologies. Star wars was a fun coming of age story that, by the third movie, had largely become about merchandizing and appealing to children. The first two were really cool and creative and had some of the coolest special effects ever created.
LotR was the retelling of one of the greatest works of imagination ever conceived. It was cool but it was still mostly clunky digital special effects, and there's way more to the story than can fit into the movies. They are still great movies, better than star wars overall, but completely different.
