I've been playing with a friend on retail, he started playing on EU launch, I just started playing a couple years ago. I sub on and off due to lack of time, but I've sunk around 1200+ hours on this game so far. We're doing a challenge-like run where we play ignoring most of the commodities of modern XI (before you ask, no, fuck private server run by trannies). It's an amazing experience. We're capped at 75, he's a MNK and I am a RDM, going through CoP story now. Just the two of us makes doing certain things very difficult or impossible, like Assaults... so we tried inviting another friend who is a FFXIV player into joining us, and he actually accepted after he got bored of Dawntrail. He picked WHM.

Needless to say, he got absolutely fucking filtered. Whenever we play and are on voice comms, he is noticeably bored, he rushes into battle and refuses to listen or learn. XIV poisoned his brain so much. He got 3 jobs to 75, but doesn't know how to play them and his combat/magic skills are extremely low thanks to all the EXP boosts he constantly activates because he literally doesn't enjoy the game unless he sees "LEVEL UP!" on screen constantly, or glowy shapes in the ground to move away from. It'd be funny if it wasn't so depressing.
