>I'm annoyed by the idea that the bosses are all that matter in these games and people just skipping the rest of the game to fight the ebin anime boss.
This is your headcannon you senile doofus. We still like the lore, the worldbuilding and overall package. You are just too blinded by your ineptitude to understand that the challenge is a main draw as well. Players WANT more engaging fights because the payoff is amazing.
You can still like stuff like this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a4XWVqXhBRI AND the combat. Wild concept I know.
>I like how one of the complaints against DS2 is that if you try to skip the mobs, they stab you in the back while you try to get in the fog gate.
DS2 tried throwing multiple mobs at you with insane leashes. Their idea of difficulty is to overwhelm you with fights that the combat isn't suited for. And they fully expect you to heal through it all by buying the health items. It's not great but it fit in with the design they were going for.
A few but strong enemies with lots of different attacks forces you to take every fight seriously. DS2 thought every room being an ambush was what players wanted and it's not.
