(NTA) I have nothing against variants but think simple recolors with nothing else are uninspired and shouldn't be a staple. If cloning and rebalancing a pal takes 5 seconds the remainder could be spent giving it a more distinct visual identity like they did Surfent Terra, Mossanda/Relaxaurus/Celaray Lux, Lyleen/Croajiro/Incineram Noct, etc.
I would be disappointed to see something like a 1:1 Pikachu clone for every type where their palettes are just whatever the type label's color is.
