And Jesus Christ did return, his "coming" being the destruction of the Second Temple, see picrel.
One could even settle this "failed prophet" canard definitively in the light of a different canard skeptics never tire of repeating: that the accuracy of the Olivet Discourse in foretelling the destruction of the Second Temple proves that the Gospels were at least written after 70 A.D., since such an accurate prediction would be improbable. Well, the skeptic can't have his cake and eat it.
If the Gospels were written after 70 A.D. then it is absolutely absurd to also maintain that the early Christians would fabricate a prophecy in order to make their leader look like a genius on a relatively minor prophecy about a building being destroyed and yet a total lunatic on the most relevant aspect of the same prophecy, namely, the approaching end of the world, since the world very obviously didn't end in 70 A.D. Either the Christians fabricated an absurd prophecy to falsify their leader right out of the gate, or these passages are being misread.
