Even with 2 internships and a degree from a pretty good uni, it still took almost 1.5 years and 700 job applications to land a coding job. I was not getting interviews. I've been warning people not to get into this dumpster fire of a career ever since. The people who studied humanities or business and landed a job at the Canadian government out of university are making 30-80% more than I am. I know exactly how much they're making because they are on the Sunshine List.
This field isn't like 2010 where you just need to solve a fizzbuzz interview question and you'll land a good job.

Your competition is either cracked and spent the last year doing competitive programming or they're cheating on their interviews, if you're even getting interviews. Even if you win, even if you get the job, was it worth the effort?
I've thrived at every single job I've had, including building software that allowed the company I work for to retain a 7-figure client. However, this hasn't resulted in appreciable professional advancement. I've only gotten raises by switching jobs.
