It is. Ukies & ziggers just remove it after inserting it into the mount so that it holds the lever closed until release. Safer, sure, but god that shit is the definition of over engineering. Very reminiscent of the tale of Soviet cosmonauts using pencils while NASA develops a special ink pen that works in microgravity at great cost. There was a good reason for not using pencils though as the graphite & other detritus gets into everywhere as it floats freely, at worst causing electrical problems and even fires.

Is it worth it to save the occasional soldier from dying while fucking up while mounting the nade? For the US probably, ziggers aren't worth the effort and Ukies don't have the luxury of spending time developing that kind of shit. Then again, they've both moved away from basic nade drops & towards VOGs and other 40 mm, but the ol' hand grenade still pops up occasionally.

I think that they're just going to go with the same mount-&-remove pin method in the end, but make the mount extra safe so that it's harder to fuck up, because mechanically removing the pin is fucking retarded and bound to fuck up.
